Is Cosmic Starship free?
Yes. The whole game is free to play in your browser. There are no purchases inside the game. The website is supported by advertising.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. The game runs in the browser. It loads a few megabytes the first time and then starts faster.
Where is my progress saved?
In your browser, on your device. There is no account. If you clear your browser data, use private browsing, or switch to another browser or device, your progress will not be there. To move or back up a save, open Settings › Commander profiles › Export profile, and import the file on the other device.
Can I have more than one save?
Yes. Settings lets you create several commanders, each with their own progress.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes, with on-screen controls, but battles are easier with a keyboard and mouse or a gamepad. On a phone, landscape works best.
The game is slow or the screen stays black
The game uses WebGL. Make sure hardware acceleration is enabled in your browser settings and your browser is up to date. In the game’s Settings you can switch Visual effects to Performance. If 3D graphics cannot start at all, the game uses a simpler 2D view.
How does co-op work?
Open the Co-op tab. One player opens a room (public, or private with a six-letter code) and the other joins it. The battle runs directly between the two browsers. Some strict networks (offices, schools, some mobile data) block direct connections; try another network if a room does not connect.
Is there sound and voice acting?
Yes: synthesized sound effects and music, and optional crew voices you can turn on in Settings.
